Vietnamese need to prepare the following documents:
- The certificate of marital status, provided by the commune-level People’s Committee within six months from the date of marriage application, verifies that the person is currently unmarried.
- The certificate is signed by a Vietnamese mental health agency within 6 months before the date of the marriage application. The certificate confirms the person currently does not have a mental illness or does not have another disease that is unable to perceive and control their behavior.
- Certified copy of national identity card and resident registration certificate (For Vietnamese citizens engaged in secret-related employment or who serve in the military, they are required to present a formal certification from federal, state, or local management bodies, confirming that the person’s marriage to a foreigner does not jeopardize the security of state secrets or violate any specific rules apply to his/her job)
Foreigners need to prepare the following documents:
- The certificate of marital status, provided by the competent authority of the country of which the marriage applicant is a citizen within six months before the date of marriage application, verifies that the person is currently unmarried.
(The certificate of marital status may be replaced by a certificate of oath by the parties by the laws of the country of which the person is a citizen.)
- The certificate is signed by a Vietnamese or foreign mental health agency within 6 months before the date of the marriage application.
